MIXED FEELINGS

  • George Harrison Studio, Liverpool (UK)

In Mixed Feelings, Jay Tebogo Fiskerstrand is asking the audience to join him on an autobiographical as well as fictional journey through his life in South Africa, US-America, Norway and England. He starts his performance by putting on an alarm clock, which will be ringing in 45 minutes - the frame is set and the journey of the piece begins:

Jay is inviting the audience to help him choose topics to deal with on stage. Throughout the 45 minutes, he will be sharing personal stories about his life, retelling them while making slight changes, moving and navigating his body in between the seats and stories. He uses the bodies of the audience members to mirror or reenact situations, confronting them with the literal urge to position themselves both physically and sociopolitically.

Mixed Feelings is questioning the relation between the performer’s body and its history. Together with the audience, Jay Tebogo Fiskerstrand is asking: How fluid are our bodies on today’s performance stages?

“It’s about you and me and what we can make together.”
